The Wittenau graduated system of aid 1927-1928
The Dalldorf mental asylum formed the basic level of aid. Affiliated to it were inpatient and outpatient facilities and services that remained linked to the asylum as far as organisation was concerned. This second level included the educational institution, the former asylum for the mentally deficient, the Wiesengrund clinic for mentally ill men, and the “abstinence sanatorium” for alcoholics as well as morphine and cocaine addicts. The third level was the medically supervised “family care”.
The fourth tier was open and follow-up care. This included “welfare for discharged persons", the lunatic aid associations for discharged mentally ill persons as well as district welfare offices for the mentally ill. The fifth tier of aid was the work of the psychiatrist in the life of the general public: the education of the public, the psychiatric instruction of judges and educators, and seeing that the demands of racial hygiene were achieved.
