The administrative centre of the "euthanasia" crimes was located at Tiergartenstrasse 4 in Berlin.
T4 Central Office
The office organised and processed the murders of the sick. It was divided into four institutions with different tasks. The “Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft Heil- und Pflegeanstalten” (RAG, Reich Cooperative for State Hospitals and Nursing Homes) was responsible for registering the victims, i.e. sending and assessing the registration forms. The “Gemeinnützige Kranken-Transport-GmbH” (Gekrat, Charitable Foundation for the Transport of Patients) controlled all issues related to the deportation of patients to the killing centres. The “Gemeinnützige Stiftung für Anstaltspflege” (Charitable Foundation for Institutional Care) acted as the employer of the roughly 400 employees, signed rental agreements and took care of all economic tasks. The "Zentralverrechnungsstelle Heil- und Pflegeanstalten" (ZVSt, Central Accounting Office for State Hospitals and Nursing Homes) regulated all financial matters and handled the correspondence with those paying for the patients’ care. Formally, this semi-governmental special administration was subordinate to the “Chancellery of the Führer”, but for reasons of secrecy, the latter was not to appear to the outside world as the body responsible for “euthanasia”.
